Mr. Johnson was born in Arlington Texas. The majority of my family members still live in the D.F.W area. We moved to Lexington Nebraska and then moved to Grand Island my sophomore year of high school. I graduated from Grand Island Northwest in 1988. After high school I attended Kearney State College to study sports medicine. After periods of being in and out of college I graduated from U.N.K with a Education degree in Natural Science and Physical Education. My first teaching job was with Aurora Public Schools from 2007-2015 teaching Physical Science to freshmen, coaching softball, and middle school basketball. I started teaching at GINW in 2015-2016 while also coaching softball. I have coached many different sports since 1995 (baseball, football, wrestling, soccer, softball) within ages ranging from 5 years old to 19. I coached high school baseball with Grand Island Senior High for about 7 years and also coached Grand Island Legion baseball. I am also currently coaching middle school football and basketball.
I have been married to Lora (Cullers) Johnson since 1993 , who I met when I was 13 years old. Together we have 4 children with the oldest being 26 who has graduated law school at U.N.L, a son who is a construction manager with a commercial construction company in Lincoln, a son who is attending Southeast in Lincoln, and a 9 year old to keep us moving. A lot of our family time has been spent around the sports world both watching and playing sports. Our family also enjoys hunting a great deal of the fall/winter together. We like to do a lot of traveling as we have gone to Yellowstone, Chicago, Smokey Mountains, and Mesa Verde (Pagosa Springs area) in the last five years with numerous trips to DFW and the Chadron area.
I really enjoy teaching high school students and working with all ages of kids. At Northwest I have taught Physical Science and currently teach Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, and College Biology. Students have so much energy, are full of life, and are fun to be around. They are trying to "discover" themselves and "find" their way. I find it very rewarding to be a small part of this process with them and enjoy being there for them when they need someone.
GO Vikings!!
